Visit to Mecca

I am a littel tired this morning. I woke up and fulfilled by exercise regiment for the day (running 3 miles). Then, I went to Mecca (Starbucks) @ 7am where I met a guy eager to serve God and be apart Journey. As Aaron and I talked, I saw the light turn on to live a "larger" and pursue his purpose in a greater way. I love those conversations!

We had a great day yesterday. Last night we had our weekly planning session at our home as a creative team. Normally about 10 of us are involved as we look ahead at future services and events at Journey. We gather to creatively communicate Jesus' teachings in a practical way - and we have fun doing it!

I am pumped at the next upcoming weeks. For Mothers' Day, we are planning a very special children's dedication for Journey parents - including a cake reception for those families and a family portrait opportunity. It's going to be a special day!!

Day at the Museum

This afternoon Angela and the boys went to the Indianapolis Children's Museum while I worked out the of house (my real office is about 5 different coffee shops in Hamilton County!)
Today I had a great lunch with another pastor in town who also launched a church six years ago. Darryn from Heartland Church is a great guy and I love hanging around those who took risks in their life to follow God's will. It challenges me to keep doing the same.
My yard is loving this rain - since I have abused it by not breaking out the sprinkler until recently. Enough said on that.

As we ramp up for this weekend, I am pumped for another weekend at Journey. As a friend of mine says...."we get to do this!"

Burned Grass and other things

Wow! I love the Sun!

For the first time this year, I jogged this morning without having to bundle up to avoid ran or cold. I think we are all loving it. My sons love going to the park at our neighborhood (or Biliricay near Promise Rd.)

I finally remembered to put out my sprinkler last night to provide some much needed refreshment to my front yard sod. Sod can get so dry, so quick. I feel like a negligent neighbor when families on either side of me have this lush, green grass (and a $150 water bill to prove it!)

Kind of reminds me of our spirits. If we allow several days to go by without the water of spending time with God, we'll feel just like grass that begins to look pale and feel dry.

Ever felt like that? I sure have. And when I do, I remember Jesus saying to the woman at the well "I have living water." Sounds good.

Tonight we have our ALPHA discussion group. I always enjoy this time as people discover God in a fresh way. Some great questions and alot of great discussion. It reminds me what 'community' is all about.

Get some Sun today (and water for your spirit)

Dessert Night and..... "Yo Adrian!"

I love hanging with the people of Journey Church so I'm looking forward to tonight. Every month my wife and I invite anyone new to Journey over at our house for some of our favorite desserts (and---there are always alot of left overs that have to be eaten by yours truly (you know - good stewardship and all!).

It's always a blast. If you haven't been to one, please sign up for the next one! You'll enjoy getting to know others new to Journey (and the staff team is pretty cool also).

Monday night Angela and I watched "Rocky Balboa" - it was a good finish to the whole Rocky series. It's pretty amazing the shape Sylvester Stallone is in at 60 yrs of age. Should make all those baby boomers out there feel good! (like my parents).

What's inside my head!

Welcome to the blog of Chad Pfeifer. You are about to enter the a strange world that is a mix of the philosophical and the trivial (kind of like a sweet coffee drink if you think about it: bitter and sweet – contrasts at the same time)

Well, today we woke up at 4:30 am to the sounds of our youngest son Christian playing in his bedroom and pounding on his door ready to start the day..... Wow – parenting toddlers is not for the faint of heart.

It is funny – most baby sitters offer to watch children in the evenings, but where are all the troopers who are willing to come to someone’s home at 4:30 in the morning?? If I find that special person, they will be my wife’s hero.

On a little more serious note....

I am sitting here at Starbucks reflecting on the Virginia Tech tragedy, and wondering “what would cause someone to murder 33 innocent people?”. I may never know and perhaps neither will you.

I am sure that being a foreign national (South Korean) has nothing to do with it. Don’t be fooled: more violence has happened in our schools by white middle class kids that anyone else.

But why...

There are areas in all of our hearts that, left to themselves, seem to give way to feelings of extreme hurt, anger and bitterness. And what sets it all off will be different for all of us.

For some, a single moment triggers a painful memory from our past. For others, a growing sense of rejection and isolation creates a flood of emotion that must come out.

All I know is that I have junk in my heart that I constantly need to deal with. Fears, insecurities, uncertainties. Even a little anger at times.

All junk. Things that will tear you and I down and creates stinking thinking.

I am learning to guard my heart from these things. But I have not perfected it yet. Perhaps it is more of an art than a science.

That is good because I was not that great in science.
